Person County Historical Society The Society In the spring of 1959, several Person County citizens, discussing the increasing number of historic landmarks that were being destroyed, discovered that they shared a sense of alarm. From this nucleus of concerned citizens, the Person County Historical Society emerged. On July 17, 1959, a small committee was ready for the first open general meeting, held in the Grand Jury Room of the Roxboro Courthouse. The first officers and board members were elected at that meeting. The Society's purpose is the investigation and preservation of Person County's history for study today and by future generations. To accomplish this goal, the Society seeks out original historical documents, photographs and other materials for its collection. For the convenience of researchers, these materials have been indexed and catalogued by Society members. Meetings The Society meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month at the Senior Center on Depot Street. Meetings begin at 7:00 pm and are open to the public. Membership Membership in the Society is available at the following levels: Student $5, Individual $20, Family $25, Institution $25, Patron $50, and Life $100.
