Planning a visit to the Person County Courthouse? See Tips for Research in Register of Deeds Office.

Recent real property indexes are available online. Images of some recent documents are available online.

The records in this office are key to much of our genealogical research. You will find the staff in the Registor of Deeds Office to be very helpful. Amanda Garrett is Register of Deeds. Delores Carver is Assistant Register of Deeds. Tonya Wilson and Fay Gryder are Deputy Registers of Deeds.

Records in this office include:

  • marriage licenses
  • birth and death certificates (since 1913)
  • deeds

If you need a copy of a specific item from that office (and you know exactly what you want) they will make a copy and mail it to you for $1 per page. A great deal if you need copies of one or two deeds.

Person County Library

The Person County Public Library includes a local history room with a large amount of geneaology information. The library Web page has additional information. See staff listing here. The reference librarian is usually the best contact for genealogy questions.

One of the many useful sources in the local history room at the library is the microfilm collection of the Courier-Times, the local newspaper. This collection provides a treasure of obituaries and other local news. In order to find an obituary, it is necessary to know the date of death!
